New This Week |
We Need a Home for Afghan refugees. As you may know, St. Luke’s, St. Titus, and St. Joseph’s are together sponsoring an Afghan refugee family. We need a two- or preferably 3-bedroom home or apartment to rent. We hope to stay in the range of $1500 per month and find a place that is close to public transportation. If you know of such a place or can recommend people who can help us, please call Bill Gutknecht at 919-672-2153. Vestry Transition Update After considering several clergy options for our transition, the Vestry has chosen the Traditional Interim Rector option. Bishop Rodman and Catherine Massey, the Canon for Transition and Pastoral Ministries, are currently screening candidates to present to the Vestry for consideration. If you would like to make a donation towards Christmas flowers and greenery, please make your check payable to St Luke’s and mark it “Christmas flowers”. Also note in whose memory or honor it is given. It may be placed in the offering plate or mailed directly to the church office. Deadline is December 15. Share Your Christmas 2021 Has Begun! Once again this year, our Share Your Christmas (SYC) program will be virtual. Instead of shopping for and wrapping gifts ourselves, we will give our St. Luke’s/LEAP families and Maple Court veterans gift cards so they can do their own shopping. We hope to raise at least $4,500 by December 12th so the 70+ people on our SYC list can buy food, clothing, toys and household goods. You can mail St. Luke’s a check with “SYC” in the memo section or donate online through ACS. For more information, see the St. Luke’s website at https://stlukesdurham.org/share-your-christmas-2021/ or the December newsletter, or contact Carol or Bill Charping at 919-489-8421. |

Afghan Resettlement Project We need your help to support an Afghan family resettle in our community. We have the volunteers! We have the partnership with St. Titus and St. Joseph’s. Now we need to finalize the monetary contributions we need to make to Church Wood Services. If you can, please send a check to Kathy Barnes at St .Luke’s with “Afghan Resettlement” in the memo line. We need to raise $4,000. Additionally, we need more to buy certain types of home furnishings (like mattresses, pillows, etc.) We know that families are currently living in really stressful circumstances. So the sooner we can pay our portion, the sooner we can provide a lovely warm home to an Afghan family. Prayers are welcome, too! CONTACT UPDATES Up-to date contact information can be found online at ACS, or the ChurchLife App for your phone or tablet. Contact Kathy if you have any problems logging onto ACS. You can also ask Kathy to send you a paper directory if needed. |
