New This Week
There will be an in-person reception for Rector Helen and Shawn after church this Sunday, September 12th in Johnson Hall from 10:20-11:20 (pre-register here). We will also hold a Zoom Coffee Hour in her honor at 11:30.
Her final day at St. Luke’s is Wednesday, September 15th.  She will be in the Breezeway between 5-6pm that day for those who would prefer to drive through to say their goodbyes.
Helen would cherish notes and remembrances.  Please mail notes and cards to: Rev Helen Svoboda-Barber, c/o St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1737 Hillandale Rd, Durham NC 27705.
You may also go here [corrected link] to offer Rector Helen written well-wishes or upload photos or video remembrances.  Please contact Kelley Lawton if you have questions or need help.

Up-to date contact information can be found online at ACS, or the ChurchLife App for your phone or tablet.  Contact Kathy if you have any problems logging onto ACS.  You can also ask Kathy to send you a paper directory if needed.
Our next hike will be on Saturday, September 18 at 1 p.m.  Weather makeup day is the 25th.  We will be hiking in Brumley Forest. The starting point is about 1500 feet west of University Station Road on Old NC 10; it’s at the northern parking lot, 3620 Old State Hwy 10.  We can do one trail or all three for a total of about 3 miles.  We can decide about the trails when we meet.  Please contact Karen Gray or Bill Gutknecht by September 17 or if you just happen to be free the morning of the 18th, please join us.

Join local Episcopalians for an outdoor, masked Pride Eucharist at 10am on Sat Sept 25th at St. Joseph’s (1902 W Main).  Please bring your own chair. If you’re LGBTQIA+ and would like to help with the service or planning, please contact Kirk Royal
If you would like to march with the Episcopal group, we will line up behind an Episcopal banner at 11am on Duke East Campus (parade begins at noon).  Parish banners are encouraged!

Do you like to ring handbells? We are starting a handbell choir at St. Luke’s in September and still need a couple more ringers. We will be rehearsing weekly on Wednesday evenings and playing on some Sunday mornings. If you read music, are familiar with handbells, and would like to join us, contact Kaye Saunders.

After much consideration for the health of our St. Luke’s volunteers and the Durham community at large, the Spring Fling (Fall Fling) committee is postponing the Fall Fling until Spring 2022. Due to the fact that the Fling is held primarily indoors and the numbers of COVID positivity in Durham is continuing to climb, we will now put all our volunteer energy into supporting the Pumpkin Patch (held entirely outside with plenty of distancing!). Don’t forget to sign up with Beth Bonner and we will see you at the Spring Fling in 2022.

Spring Fling Co-Chairs,
Joan Hodges and Lisa D’Amico
