Coffee and Conversation This Sunday: Meet and Greet Chris Reed!
Join us this Sunday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the Kramer Room for a meet and greet with our new intern, Chris Reed. Chris is a lawyer who also holds a Master of Divinity degree and is discerning a possible call to the priesthood.
Chris will be with us through December, and we are grateful to accompany him during this season of discernment. Come hear more of his story, introduce yourself, and help us give him a warm St. Luke’s welcome.
Pilgrimage Discussion Meeting This Sunday
If you are interested, please join us for a meeting after the 10:30 service this Sunday in the Kramer Room. We would love to hear your thoughts, answer questions, and begin imagining together what a St. Luke’s pilgrimage might look like.
Our Breakfast Casserole Ministry for St. Joseph’s begins this Sunday! Please take a pan (one or more!) being passed out after each of the Sunday services. Each pan will have instructions, and sample recipes in them. Please pay particular attention to the instructions. We are asking that the cooked casseroles be frozen and then returned to the Johnson Hall refrigerator the following Sunday morning (July 19th). They will be delivered to St. Joseph’s after the 10:30a service on July 19th. Questions? Please reach out to Steve Engelke.
Sunday Flowers
We are deeply grateful that a florist from Iglesia El Buen Pastor has graciously offered to provide flowers for our weekly worship service at no cost. This is a generous gift to our shared life and worship.
We will continue to invite parishioners to give flowers in honor or memory of loved ones. On those Sundays, we will provide a special additional bouquet in recognition of that dedication.
St. Luke’s Pantry—Donations Needed
We are grateful to be able to offer non-perishable groceries to our neighbors who are often in need of food for their families. Recently, some of our pantry food was among the donations that were sent to Venezuela.
We currently need to replenish many items:
canned tuna and chicken
spaghetti sauce and canned tomatoes
pasta and noodles
jelly or jam
canned soups
pop-top containers (ravioli, etc.)
small bags of rice
breakfast cereal
instant oatmeal
granola or protein bars
packages of sandwich crackers.
No glass containers, please.
Personal and household items are often needed as well: laundry or dish detergent, shampoo and conditioner, feminine products, toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, cleaning supplies, and body lotion.
Please drop your pantry donations in the baskets just outside the nave doors in the narthex.
Thank you for helping to support this important ministry.
New Ministries in Support of our Community
Your pastoral care team is starting some new ministries aimed at supporting those in need of comfort from our community
- Meal Train: enabling the offer of meals when our folks are in need of food to help them bridge a difficult or stressful time. Sign up in the Sprague Room to join the email list that will be our form of communication with volunteers when the need arises. If you have questions, please reach out to Ann Riley (anntoddriley@gmail.com) or Deacon Monnie+ (deacon@stlukesdurham.org).
- Soup: There are times when a bowl of soup and a piece of bread would feed someone’s soul – those who may be feeling sad, those who feel helpless, or those who are just plain worn out. Making something to eat isn’t on the agenda. All anyone in our community needs to do is come to the Johnson Hall freezer and pick up soup and bread. Please reach out to Valerie Callahan (vcallahan51@gmail.com).
Children’s Chapel in Johnson Hall
Families are invited to drop their children off before the 10:30 service begins. They will gather for Children’s Chapel and then be led back into the church in time to join the community for the celebration of the Eucharist.
During Children’s Chapel, the children are participating in a liturgy of the word through bible stories, song, and prayer. We are also working on memorizing the Lords Prayer through recitation.
We offer nursery care from 9-11:45 a.m. in our nursery in Johnson Hall, just across the breezeway from the church.
Summer Parish Office Hours
During the summer, the parish office is open Mon-Wed 9 a.m.-3 p.m. On Thursdays, the parish coordinator works remotely and is available by phone or email. If you call the church office on Thursdays, your call will be forwarded to her phone. Greg, David, and Monnie will be working and reachable by cell.

Our email list lets you stay up to date on parish news and fellowship events (weekly announcements email), stay aware of difficult times facing your fellow parishioners (weekly e-prayers email), and know when the latest issue of our monthly newsletter, Acts of Faith, is published. But, to paraphrase a saying, you have to be on it to get it! Make sure the parish coordinator has your email address, or subscribe automatically by going to our homepage at stlukesdurham.org, “Connect with us.”
St. Luke’s Calendar
Our parish calendar is up to date on our website at stlukesdurham.org. Weddings, baptisms, funerals, and other special services are scheduled by the clergy. The parish coordinator can help you arrange meetings or other events. Contact her at the church office at 919-286-2273.
Online Church Directory
