You know those people who are constantly on their smartphones? Those people who are on their phones everywhere, in restaurants, movie theatres, concerts, even in church? Well, if you’re sitting in church and you look up front and see me, your organist, on my phone during the service, I promise I am not shopping on Amazon or watching funny cat videos. I am actually running the livestream of our service on Facebook.

You may have noticed a little camera sitting on a tripod in front of the altar; it’s called a Mevo livestream camera and it’s connected by Bluetooth to a phone app. The person running the livestream uses their phone to control and monitor the camera, and can sit almost anywhere in the sanctuary. It’s pretty cool! Our diocese uses the same type of Mevo camera when they stream ordinations and other live events.

Right now Wendy Cook and I are taking turns setting up and running the livestream each week. It’s very easy to learn, and it’s fun, and you don’t have to be tech-savvy to do it. You could do it without leaving your seat in church!

We do need some help. Please let us know if you’d like to be part of the livestream team.
