What we’re up to during 2020

August update: We participated in a distanced, in person graduation acknowledgement ceremony where we shared a blessing and received gifts from the congregation.

In July we produced a virtual Sunday Eucharist. Below are some highlights; you can also watch the entire service on Facebook.

Youth Group before COVID

The St. Luke’s Youth Group met every Sunday during the formation year from 11:15am – 12:00 noon. We gathered to share a meal, check-in with each other, have a lesson which might be on the Bible, church history, or another topic of interest, and pray.

Our youth have been active in parish and Diocesan activities and mission experiences around Durham and around the world, including Belize (2010, 2014, 2018), Montana (2012) and Glory Ridge (2014, 2016).

In spring 2019, we did a lock-in, a silent auction, a 5th Sunday breakfast fundraiser, and the annual Shrove Tuesday (March 5th) pancake dinner for all comers. Diocesan events included Bishop’s Ball (February 8-10) and Genesis (for middle schoolers) in March.

On our way to Belize!

Support for High School Graduates

To support St. Luke’s youth in the challenging transition to adulthood, we offer to all high school graduates a $500 scholarship for assistance in attending the college of their choice. Graduates also receive a prayer shawl in the school colors of their college, lovingly knitted by our Prayer Shawl group.

2018 high school graduates receive prayer shawls from St. Luke’s Prayer Shawl group.
