New This Week
Rhonda is on vacation and will return to work on the 11th of July. If you have a pastoral emergency during this time, please call the church office or one of the wardens (their contact information is in the church directory, or available through Parish Administrator Kathy Barnes).

Sound System update – Erik Ramquist, our outside sound contractor, has finished connecting our sound system in the nave. The clergy are very happy to have lavalier mics and sound through our speakers again. He will be helping June (our Jr. Warden) with Bluetooth receiver set up to improve the livestream audio and then his work is complete. We thank Erik for his expertise! He was great to work with.

Vestry changes – Barbara Longmire (vestry class 2024) has decided to resign from the vestry. Barbara’s sister passed away this spring and Barbara says it has taken more of a toll on her than she realized. She has asked for some space from activities. We thank Barbara for being willing to serve. Babs Wise has agreed to fill Barbara’s vacant position and will serve the rest of the term which expires in December 2024. Thank you Babs!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!  Calling All Sunday Counters!
Starting this September the plan is to restart the Sunday Counters.  How does this ministry work?  Well, if you are interested to learn and have questions, please contact Julia Hoyle. Thank you for considering this ministry.

There is a new phishing attempt going around from someone purporting to be Rhonda. This latest campaign came from the email address church.ppastor1@gmail.com which suggests the person didn’t even bother customizing their “from” address to different churches, but used what they hoped would be a one-size-fits-all address. Please ignore any such emails.

The Food Pantry is in good shape and thank all of you who continue to contribute. A couple of notes: we have PLENTY of tuna fish! Canned chicken, ham, or spam would be welcome, as would soups. We’ve gotten low on those. Many of you have been providing jars of pasta sauce and a package of spaghetti, which is a great, easy combination for a dinner. Kid friendly items are needed (canned pasta meals, fruit cups, cold cereal, etc).  As always, if you have any questions, contact, Jan Freeman. Thanks again for your generosity.  Jan Freeman

Calling all ushers (or would be ushers):  There will be an usher training for all current, past, soon to be ushers (or anyone interested in learning what an usher is responsible for) on August 7, immediately following the service. We will review all worship (bring elements to the altar, etc.), communion, and emergency protocols at this time. Bring a friend!

The long-awaited St. Luke’s Fall Fling will be held on October 15, 2022, along with our Pumpkin Patch.  This is a major opportunity to work with other St. Luker’s to support our outreach program.  the Fall Fling proceeds will go to St. Luke’s Outreach efforts while providing useful items to the Durham community at very reasonable prices.  So, mark October 15th on your calendar and continue or start saving those “treasures”.  Email Joan Hodges or Lisa D’Amico for questions or volunteer opportunities. See you there!

Rector Search Update July 2022

The vestry has asked Joan Hodges and Steve Dedrick to serve as Co-Chairs of our 2022/2023 Search Committee to find our next rector and they have both agreed.  Joan and Steve will assist in building out the full Search Committee to include 3 vestry members.  We will announce the full committee in late July and then the entire Search Committee will begin meeting with Canon Catherine Massey from the Office of Transition Ministry of the Diocese.  As has been mentioned before, they will begin their work of gathering thoughts, hopes, and dreams of who St. Luke’s is and who St. Luke’s wants to become. This data gathering, from all of you, will produce what is called the Parish Profile. This is what potential candidates will see when our position is posted.

Look for opportunities for your voice to be heard in the coming months!

Please join me and the vestry in praying for God to continue to guide us throughout this process.

Faithfully,
Lisa D’Amico
Sr. Warden, St. Luke’s vestry
Please be advised that the clergy will never ask for help, gift cards, etc. through emails or text messages.  There have been more bogus texts being received.
