New This Week
MEETING GOD IN BOOKS LENTEN PROGRAM
Our Lenten Program this year will be Meeting God in Books.  We will met on Zoom from 6-7pm on Wednesdays February 24, and March 3, 10, 17 and 24th.  Each night one St. Luker will share about a book that has mattered in their life and we will discuss some themes and ideas from that book.
This week, Rector Helen will share about Madeline L’Engle’s A Wrinkle In Time.

MONTHLY SUNG VESPERS
A small group offers sung Vespers (Evening Prayer) in Latin, using Gregorian Chant, this month on Sunday Evening Feb 21 at 7:00 PM.  The service will be held on Zoom and sung by a quartet of singers who had been among those singing Vespers at St Luke’s once a month over the past few years. The service lasts approximately 30 minutes.  We hope that you will join us for the service.  For more information, please look at the Vespers webpage.  Music for the service is found here.

How Can I Help?
BECOME A WORSHIP LEADER
St. Luke’s has a small and faithful group of people helping to lead our online worship, and we’re looking to expand this group.  If you are able to use Zoom, can meet on Thursday afternoons, and would be willing to be a worship reader, please contact Helen.
How about music?  Even if you haven’t been in our choir before, we would love to have you as part of our virtual choir or to offer a solo or instrumental piece.  These you record at home on your own time.  If you’re willing and able, please contact Kaye.

EL BUEN PASTOR FOOD DISTRIBUTION
St. Luke’s members and friends (16 years and older) are encouraged to help with the monthly food distribution out of El Buen Pastor.  Distributions are normally from 7:30-12:30 (come all or just part of the time) on the 1st Saturday of the month.  For more info, please contact Peter Jacobi who is a regular St. Luke’s participant.

KEEP CLERGY IN THE LOOP
Please make sure to keep the clergy in the loop if there are any needs or concerns you have or you know about.  You can e-mail Helen at any time.

REMEMBER, Your clergy will not send you e-mail or texts messages asking for gift cards or financial help.

EPISCOPAL RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT 1,000 DAYS OF LOVE CAMPAIGN

The purpose of the 1000 Days of Love is to raise money to help children in the developing world have a chance for a more normal foundation during their formative first 1000 days of life (5 years).

Our Diocese has an overall contribution goal of $198,000 and suggested a goal for each congregation of a gift of $15 x Average Sunday Attendance.  For St. Luke’s that calculated to $2,085.

We started our campaign in November 2020, including it in our Virtual Alternative Gifts Fair, to reach our goal.  As of this week St. Luke’s has not only reached, but exceeded our goal by some $900!

This ERD campaign for young children remains open until May 2022, and individuals can contribute by logging on to bit.ly/1000DaysofLove.  The Vestry has decided that, given other needs and future opportunities for Outreach, St. Luke’s will now close our active campaign, while suggesting individuals continue to consider donating.  Please ensure you add “St. Luke’s, Durham” in the “Comment” box (online) or on the Memo line (Check) when you donate.  We very much thank everyone who has already contributed for this most worthy cause.
